How to play 10x10

Drag a piece from the tray onto the board, or tap a piece and then tap where it should go. Fill a whole row or column to clear it, and clear several at once for a bonus. You get three pieces at a time and a new three once they are all placed. Pieces can't be rotated. When none of your pieces fits anywhere, the game is over, though you can always undo your last move.

Scoring

You score 1 point for every block you place, but clearing lines is where the points are. The more lines one piece clears, the bigger the bonus: one line is worth 10 points, two at once 30, three 60 and four 100. Your best score is kept between visits.

Tips and strategy

  • Always keep room for the 3×3 square and the five-block lines. They are the hardest pieces to fit, so try to leave a 3×3 gap and at least one long open row or column.
  • Fill the edges and corners first and keep the middle open. Pieces dropped in the centre split the free space into awkward pockets.
  • Look at all three pieces before placing any. The order matters: place first the piece that clears a line, so the others have room.
  • On an open board, build up two or three nearly full lines and finish them with one piece for the multi-line bonus. When the board is crowded, clear whatever you can.
  • Avoid single-square holes. Only the one-block piece can fill them, and it may not come for a while.
