How to play Klondike Solitaire
Move all 52 cards up to the four foundations, building each one by suit from Ace to King. On the seven columns below, build down in alternating colours: a red 6 on a black 7, then a black 5 on the red 6. You can move a whole run of face-up cards together, and only a King (or a run starting with one) can fill an empty column. When you move the last face-up card off a column, the card beneath turns over. Click the stock to turn over more cards; when it runs out, click it again to turn the waste back over. Drag cards, or tap one to send it where it can go. Undo with Ctrl+Z or U, and draw with D. Once every card is face up, Finish plays the rest up to the foundations for you.
Draw 1 or Draw 3
- Draw 1: each click on the stock turns over one card. Every card in the stock is easy to reach, so most games can be won.
- Draw 3: each click turns over three, and only the top one can be played. Cards can stay out of reach for a whole pass, which makes it much harder.
- Either way, you can go through the stock as many times as you like. Your best time for each is kept between visits.
Tips and strategy
- Turning over face-down cards matters most. When you have a choice, move cards from the column with the most hidden cards.
- Don't rush cards up to the foundations. A low card on a foundation can't hold the cards you might want to build on it, so keep 3s and 4s on the table until they are no longer needed there.
- Only empty a column when you have a King ready to fill it. An empty column is only useful for a King.
- When two cards could take the same card, such as two black 7s for a red 6, choose the one whose column has more hidden cards to free.
- Look through the whole stock before committing, especially in Draw 1. Knowing what is coming helps you choose between moves.
- Stuck? Undo is unlimited, so step back and try a different line.
